Ayurvedic Home Remedies to Treat Diabetes


Diabetes is a condition where the sugar level of the blood is too high. The two main types of diabetes are Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. When the body fails to make enough insulin to break down the glucose in the blood cells, one is said to have been diagnosed with diabetes. It is often genetic, but mostly occurs due to an unhealthy lifestyle. It is very difficult to find a proper solution to this problem.

Ayurveda, however, is the natural medicine available in the very heart of Mother Nature in various herbs, flowers, leaves, etc. The best part about this treatment is that it can be easily done in home, thus saving medical bills. Western medicine fraternities have started giving extreme importance to Ayurveda treatments as they give effective remedies to various ‘incurable diseases’.

Let’s look at some of the effective ways to treat diabetes using Ayurveda in home.

Bitter Gourds – Remove the skin and seeds of 4-5 bitter gourds. Crush them and make a paste. Press this paste on a sieve and extract the juice. Drink this juice on an empty stomach every morning.

Fenugreek Seeds (Methi) – Take 4 table spoons of fenugreek seeds. Soak them in 250 ml water overnight. Crush them in the morning. Strain the mixture and collect the juice. Drink it every day at a fixed time like morning or evening for 2 months.

Cinnamon Powder – Boil 1 L of water. Let it simmer for 20 minutes on low flame. While simmering, add 3 teaspoons of cinnamon powder. Strain the mixture properly. Drink the entire amount of this water every day. You can also add cinnamon to warm beverages, smoothies and baked goods.

Turmeric, Amla and Methi – Mix ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder + 1 teaspoon Amla Powder + ½ tablespoon Methi Seeds Powder in half glass of water and take daily in the morning on an empty stomach.

Indian Gooseberry (Amla) – Take 2/3 Amlas. Remove the seeds. Make a fine paste by grinding. Put the paste in a cloth and squeeze out the juice. Mix 2 tablespoons of the juice in 1 cup of water and drink it daily on an empty stomach.

Bitter Gourd and Amla – Mix 1 tablespoon of Amla juice in a cup of bitter gourd juice and drink it daily for a few months.

Mango Leaves – Soak 10 – 15 tender mango leaves in a glass of water overnight. In the morning, filter the water and drink it on an empty stomach.  You can also dry the leaves in the shade and grind them. Eat ½ teaspoon of powdered mango leaves twice a day.

Black Plum or Indian Black Berry (Jamun) – It’s a seasonal fruit. Whenever available, include it in your daily diet.

Neem – It is very effective and available in the market. Include it in your daily diet.
